Holston View Elementary Events & Traditions

Open House/Yearbook Signing (August)

Start the year off with our Open House and Yearbook Signing! This event takes place as a way for students and parents to meet their child’s teachers, see the school, and stop by tables to see many of the ways families can become involved in our Holston View community in the upcoming year. This night is also the much-anticipated release of the previous year’s yearbook! Students have an opportunity to meet in the gym to sign and be signed, find their favorite pictures, and get a first view of the student drawn artwork on the cover!

Back to School Bash (August)

Deemed one of the school year’s most fun-filled days, the Back to School Bash is certainly a highly anticipated, beginning of the year Holston View tradition. Filled with games, bounce houses, water activities, and FUN, the Back to School Bash is a day that your child will look forward to year after year.

Parent Learning Night (September)

Does Canvas seem confusing? Is PowerSchool perplexing? Meet with the top technology experts at our Parent Learning Night and acquire the skills needed to navigate the digital world of your child. Discover the many ways that our technology can help you stay plugged in!

Fall Festival

Each September, Holston View’s PTA plans and hosts our annual Fall Festival. Our school’s largest fundraiser, the Fall Festival gives our families a chance to have tons of fun while helping raise the money needed to support our students and teachers throughout the school year. A relaxed evening filled with games, prizes, food, silent auction baskets, and the always popular Warrior Dash, the Fall Festival is sure to have something for everyone!

Trunk or Treat (October)

October brings with it one of Holston View’s most beloved traditions: Trunk or Treat! Teachers and parents decorate their cars – and themselves – to pass out treats to your costume-clad children! This free community event allows your children to see their teachers in ways they could not imagine – dressed up in crazy costumes! Teachers and staff have shown up at Trunk or Treat in a variety of unexpected ways: dressed as chickens, emojis, pirates, characters from their favorite movies, and more!  You will not want to miss a huge night of candy-filled fun that your child will talk about for months!

Family Book Fair Night (November)

Every year, Holston View welcomes the Scholastic truck and with it, the adventures that await on the pages of the books inside. The Family Book Fair Night is the kick off to the themed week-long book fair that gives parents and students the opportunity to purchase books for themselves, their favorite teachers, and our school library. The Book Fair is a wonderful way to encourage our students to make new and exciting discoveries through books!

Holiday Program (December)

Tradition reigns when the current second graders, through their music class, present the annual Christmas Program. A night filled with singing, dancing, acting – and sometimes a visit from Santa himself – is sure to leave everyone who attends ready for a Holly Jolly season!

Walk-A-Thon (April)

The Holston View Walk-A-Thon is an annual FUNdraiser that encourages our students and their families to raise money for our school. Past Walk-A-Thons have met our school needs by supplying stage curtains for the Little Theater, AR books for classroom libraries, technology for classrooms, and instructional supplies for teachers. This fundraiser is an easy one; students get their family, friends, and neighbors to sponsor their laps around the school – and then the students get outside and walk! The best part is that our school benefits 100% from all money raised! This fun day in the sun helps our school AND keeps our students on the move!

Dinner on the Grounds & Talent Show (May)

As the school year comes to an end, the Holston View PTA continues the long-standing tradition of hosting an old-fashioned Dinner on the Grounds. This free event is open to all Holston View families and provides an opportunity for our community to come together and relax, connect, and reflect on the year. The delicious dinner concludes with amazing talent from the best entertainers in town – our students! Whether the show is filled with singing, dancing, comedy, or magic, one thing is for sure: our students will leave you wanting more!

Awards Day (May)

Students, family members, friends, teachers, and staff look forward to Holston View’s end of the year Awards Day. Whether it is our PreK students who are excited that they finished their first year of school, our K-5 students who are proud of how far they have come since the first of the year, or our 6th graders who are looking toward beginning their journey at Vance, this day is one of reflection, celebration, and emotion for all of our owls. You will want to bring your camera and your tissues to the final assembly of the school year where we spotlight the incredible accomplishments of our students.
